HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE BODY COMPOSITION TEST (BIOIMPEDANCE ANALYSIS)
Before the test:
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
Avoid exercise and caffeine the day of the appointment
Avoid food for 4 hours
Drink a minimum of 2 glasses of water a few hours before test or the night before in the case of a morning test
No fluids within 1 hour
Empty your bladder right before the test (there is a bathroom on the first floor for your convenience)
Remove any removable electronic devices such as watches, insulin pumps (if safe to do so), continuous glucose monitors, etc.
Notify me if you are pregnant or have any implanted medical devices such as a pacemaker, as it is not advised with such conditions
WHAT IS BODY COMPOSITION TESTING? (BIOIMPEDANCE ANALYSIS)
Bioimpedance analysis is a type of test which can determine your muscle mass, fat mass, and hydration. This is important because your weight when you step on a scale cannot tell you your muscle status or body fat percentage (a good indicator for chronic health). What your body is made out of matters significantly more than the actual number on the scale. Think of body builders - many of them could be considered "overweight" or even "obese" if you look purely at height and weight, but it's evident that they do not have excess fat but rather have additional metabolic tissue.
ARE THERE ANY REASONS WHY I SHOULDN'T HAVE A BODY COMPOSITION TEST?
Yes! If you are pregnant or have an implanted medical device like a pacemaker, it's not advised that you have a bioimpedance analysis.
